This is a great book. As a comic work, its proper combination of words and pictures shows the unique charm of comic art in depth and shallowly.While learning and understanding the theory of comic , I also feel the author's skillful application of comic.
Comic, indeed, are art. “Understanding Comic” is the film guide for this artistic performance. This book not only puts forward a complete theoretical system, but also a very simple discussion(though still not very easy to understand). But readers don't need to have any aesthetic foundation, or even read comics, because the book itself is a comic book. Every time the author talks about new comic concepts, they are presented in a comic way, which I think is the best part of this book. The theory that represents it is not only practical, but also self-practical. It can also be said that comics are used to illustrate comics, so that the theory built will be solid. It may be easier and faster to harvest theories from other fields of art, but in the end it will only make comics appendages to other arts.Only when we start from scratch and lay a solid foundation for the theorization of comics can we develop into another art school.
