Will Eisner

  First of all, I have to say that Eisner is indeed top in the comics industry, which has had a great impact on the cartoonists afterwards. As a tutorial in the professional field, it is worth reading. Of course, as an illustration, the Eisner comics are also classic comics. But Will Eisner uses a wide range of blacks and shadows in the painting; perhaps this is not quite in line with the aesthetics of Asian style, but the storyline is still very interesting.

  Follow up with theory and practice in a timely manner. Apply to comics immediately after speaking the theory. Although it is easy to understand, the overall structure of the book does not gradually run through to the end, but brokenly or independently; there is a big difference between the text and the illustration; especially the same set of comics, there are different meanings when there are text comments and no text comments. Or the same bubble has absolutely different meanings in different pictures. However, such typesetting is more or less fragmentary, especially for foreign students, such textbook comics need to be sorted out so that one can deeply understand.

  It is my first contact with graphic novel. Unlike traditional comics, the content of graphic novel is more literary, more serious, and more literary. Different from the traditional novels, it can achieve a direct and powerful sense of spiritual shock through the way of the picture and visual impact.

  The Adventures of Tintin has vivid style, easy lines, making people clear at a glance. The plot is tense, the climax happens frequently, full of constant laughter. The characters in the story are distinct：calm, clever and brave Tintin; Milou, a pet dog that always stands up whenever Tintin encounters a danger, captain Haddock with hot temper, all are created by author Herge. What surprises me even more is the author's fineness of the comic background, we see the Bauhaus-style chairs of the 1920s, the streamlined cars of the 1930s, the view of the Himalayas, the deep-sea environment of the Atlantic Ocean, and even a small shop sign in the streets of Peking in the Republic of China; the scene drawn by Herge must have a real life contrast. This sense of reality comes from the results of Herge 's tireless collection of information. Throughout his life, Herge has been building a diverse and rich database: cars were faithfully portrayed; the weapons were painted according to the propaganda materials of the arms manufacturers; the cameras were drawn compared to the advertisements of Lycra; the motorboats were derived from the materials collected at the sailing exhibition; the clothes were drawn from fashion magazines, etc. Herge stubbornly preserved things which he thought they would be used one day: a wide variety of materials from various sources, postcards with paintings, home manuals, and clippings in various fields.

  Due to time limit I can't read the complete book of the Adventures of Tintin, but I still marvel at the details of this comic, and I think this comic has more elements that can be explored in depth.

This is a great book. As a comic work, its proper combination of words and pictures shows the unique charm of comic art in depth and shallowly.While learning and understanding the theory of comic , I also feel the author's skillful application of comic.  

  Comic, indeed, are art. “Understanding Comic” is the film guide for this artistic performance. This book not only puts forward a complete theoretical system, but also a very simple discussion(though still not very easy to understand). But readers don't need to have any aesthetic foundation, or even read comics, because the book itself is a comic book. Every time the author talks about new comic concepts, they are presented in a comic way, which I think is the best part of this book. The theory that represents it is not only practical, but also self-practical. It can also be said that comics are used to illustrate comics, so that the theory built will be solid. It may be easier and faster to harvest theories from other fields of art, but in the end it will only make comics appendages to other arts.Only when we start from scratch and lay a solid foundation for the theorization of comics can we develop into another art school.

There are a lot of fantastic elements in it.The author created a fantastic but realistic epic for us with first-class solid painters.The whole book is like an old photo album, coupled with a film-like split-lens, which completely puts my mind into the emotions behind the screen.
